The Magneto-rotational Instability near Threshold: Spatio-temporal Amplitude Equation and Saturation

چکیده

We show, by means of a perturbative weakly nonlinear analysis, that the axisymmetric magneto-rotational instability (MRI) in a magnetic Taylor-Couette (mTC) flow in a thin-gap gives rise, for very small magnetic Prandtl numbers (Pm), to a real Ginzburg-Landau equation for the disturbance amplitude. The saturation amplitude As is found to scale in this regime as P m, with 1/2 < δ < 2/3 (depending on the boundary conditions adopted). The asymptotic results are shown to comply with numerical calculations performed by using a spectral code. They suggest that the transport due to the nonlinearly developed MRI may be vanishingly small for Pm ≪ 1.

Size-dependent Vibration and Instability of Magneto-electro-elastic Nano-scale Pipes Containing an Internal Flow with Slip Boundary Condition

Size-dependent vibrational and instability behavior of fluid-conveying magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) tubular nano-beam subjected to magneto-electric potential and thermal field has been analyzed in this study. Considering the fluid-conveying nanotube as an Euler-Bernoulli beam, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) equations are derived by using non-classical constitutive relations for MEE material...

New Approach to Instability Threshold of a Simply Supported Rayleigh Shaft

The main goal of this research is to analyse the effect of angular velocity on stability and vibration of a simply supported Rayleigh rotating shaft. To this end, non-dimensional kinetic and potential energies are written while lateral vibration is considered. Finite element method is employed to discrete the formulations and Linear method is applied to analyse instability threshold of a rotati...

General relativistic simulations of magneto-rotational core collapse with microphysics

This paper presents results from axisymmetric simulations of magneto-rotational stellar core collapse to neutron stars in general relativity. These simulations are performed using a new general relativistic numerical code specifically designed to study this astrophysical scenario. The code is an extension of an existing (and thoroughly tested) hydrodynamics code, which has been applied in the r...

Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis of Cracked Micro-Beams Below and at the Onset of Dynamic Pull-In Instability

In this paper, the effect of the crack on dynamic behavior of cracked micro-beam in the presence of DC and AC loads are investigated. By applying the residual axial stress and fringing field stress, a nonlinear analytical model of cracked micro-beam is presented and crack is modeled by a massless rotational spring. The governing equation of the system is solved using Galerkin procedure and shoo...
